Real World Technology Solutions will be retiring one of our mail servers and migrating emails and accounts stored on it to our Hosted Exchange platform.
The migration is a necessary part of our compliance with the Australian Government’s Metadata Retention legislation that was passed into law as part of the Communications Act in October 2015. We are unable to meet the onerous requirements of the legislation on the current platform, and as such are migrating you to our modern Hosted Exchange platform.
What will it cost?
Real World will preserve your current financial arrangement for email hosting as we migrate you to the new platform. We are performing the migration free of charge for our customers.
What will change?
Our engineers will contact you specifically regarding changes that are needed. Typically, you will need to set up new accounts in your email client. Your webmail address will change to http://exchange.thecore.net.a
Will I lose any mail?
If you are using IMAP, your mail is stored on the server and we will migrate your mail data. If you are using POP/SMTP you may need to migrate some data between mailboxes on your machine.
What happens to SPAM messages?
Our Hosted Exchange platform uses our SpamCloud email filtering system for inbound SPAM filtering. This filters mail as it arrives in your mailbox and delivers SPAM messages to your Junk Mail folder. The quarantine mail messages you are used to receiving are no longer used.
What do I need to do?
Our engineering team will contact you very soon with the new settings and work with you to make any changes that are needed to ensure you can access your mail. If you feel you need help to make changes to your computer, they can work with you to organise secure remote access to your computer to complete the migration.
We will be emailing each active mail account with instructions relating to the migration.
I’ve heard exchange has more features?
You will be migrated on our Hosted Exchange Basic tier. This provides basic POP and IMAP access - the same as you currently have through the current system. We also provide more Exchange Features and larger mailboxes for our customers.
Exchange Standard plans start at $6.95 per month including 25GB of storage and can be upgraded at any time. Exchange Standard includes a range of enhanced features including full Outlook support (including contacts and calendars) and ActiveSync for mobile access from an Android or Apple SmartPhone.
Is there a webmail interface?
Exchange supports a full featured web based interface for accessing your email. This is similar to Outlook on a Mac or PC.
Can I still manage my own mailboxes?
Yes. We provide a management interface that you can use to create and manage mailboxes, and other features. We’re putting together some instructional videos on how to manage your mailboxes.
We use the mailing/distribution list feature at the moment. Is this still available?
We support Exchange Distribution Groups which can be used in a similar way to the existing mailbox/distribution list feature. We’ve taken this into consideration in our migration planning and in most cases will simply migrate your mailing lists for you.
In some cases you may want to consider using systems such as MailChimp or Campaign Monitor instead to manage your broadcast mailing lists. These systems also assist you with complying with the SPAM act. If we believe you would be better suited with this type of system, we will let you know as part of the migration process.
Who can I speak to if I need more information?
You can reply to this email or call our office on 1300 798 718. The migration project is being managed by Jason Schadow, David Fabri, and Dinuka Panagoda from Real World’s team.
